Hi Judy,
I can still see that little rat right in front of me but the chestnut was more wonderfully carved and in truly translucent buffalo horn. First, of course, I bought it as yet another rat netsuke but the Iwami carver Kanman was a favorite of mine though less famous than Tomiharu Seiyodo, the founding father of the Iwami school. He worked also more often in other materials. I owned many pieces in UMIMATSU, or sea pine by Kanman. And several boar tusks, only one by Seiyodo.

Hi Willi, checking out some images on the internet this morning, I ran across a netsuke of yours that linked me here. I have enjoyed looking through your netsuke and reading some of your posts. I hope that you are doing well, and enjoying your days wherever they are taking you!
011 rat on chestnut carved from Buffalo horn –I love the coloration change -a very interesting and appealing effect! They are all wonderful though. I love owning your book, and take it out often to “window shop”!
Best to you always,
Judy
